Use Truth to Effectively and Wisely Promote the Conversion of the Sinner
Paul instructed Timothy, “Be diligent to present yourself approved to God as a workman who does not need to be ashamed, accurately handling the word of truth” (2Ti.2:15). The KJV states, “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.” The greatest leverage we have in attempting to convince and convict sinners of the error of their ways is a proper use of truth, speaking the truth in love (Ep.4:11-16); the kindness and severity of love (Ro.11:22). Consider, “My brethren, if any among you strays from the truth and one turns him back, let him know that he who turns a sinner from the error of his way will save his soul from death and will cover a multitude of sins” (Jms.5:19-20). We must use truth to bring those who have strayed from it, back to it.
Finally, there is much to be gained from a proper embrace of the proverbial statement, “…he who is wise wins souls.” A healthy, effective use of truth and a balanced understanding and approach toward love is necessary if we are to exercise the most powerful influence we can upon those in bondage to their hardened hearts and depraved minds. Wisdom, finding the best means of arriving at the best end, is needed. Many, in their immaturity, possibly well-intentioned, lack this quality and create their own hurdles (as if we do not have enough already).
